The former FC United of Manchester boss returns to his hometown club.

Wythenshawe Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of James Mulvihill as our Women’s first team Manager.

James, who is from Wythenshawe and played for the club as a junior, joins the Ammies following his recent resignation from FC United of Manchester.

During his time at FC United, he guided them to a league and Argyle Plate double last campaign for the first time in their history.

We recently announced that as of the 2023/24 season, our Women’s first team will take up semi-professional status in line with our men’s first team.

James will begin his role as Women’s first team manager this week and is looking forward to meeting up with the team and getting started.

“It's a dream come true to finally come back to Wythenshawe,” he said. “I played here as a junior, won trophies and hope to bring silverware back to the club this season!

"Upon learning about the vision Sacha, Carl and the board have for the club, I just knew I had to be part of it.

"As a Wythenshawe lad, it's only right I do everything in my power to push the Ammies forward.

"At FC United last season, I set high standards for the team. We finished the campaign with a league and plate double, winning the North West Prem and Argyle Plate for the first time in the club's history.

"I can't wait to meet the team and get planning for winning promotion this season. We know we have a difficult task ahead, but it's one I’m excited to get started on.”

Wythenshawe FC Chair Sacha Lord is delighted with the appointment. He said: “The main reason I took the role of Chair was after hearing about the depth and vision from Carl and the rest of the board for the future of the club. After announcing the women’s team going semi-pro only last week, we are delighted that James has chosen to join the club. This is just the start, with more announcements coming over the next few days.”

More announcements to follow.
