Will Ahern's on fire - la la la la la la - helps secure a place in the final of the Gilgryst Cup. More ooh la la as Wythenshawe welcomed two French assistant referees whom the Manchester league gave the opportunity to officiate, both were magnifique.
88 ardent supporters braved the elements, being met by rain, sleet, snow, gales and sun at the Dream Arena.
Wythenshawe defended the Clubhouse End as Dukinfield kicked off putting the Ammies under immediate pressure, with wave after wave of attacks for half an hour, Wythenshawe's defence held tight, superbly marshalled by Luke Worth. During that time Wythenshawe went close on a couple of occasions, Joel Aikenhead crossed for Chris Howard who had his shot parried by the keeper out to Aikenhead whose effort was narrowly wide. Ahern on the edge of the box saw his effort narrowly over.
With half time looming and maybe to escape the hairdryer Wythenshawe went up a gear, in the 40th minute, Alan Dolan collected and put in a great cross to find the head of Lille who made no mistake. 1-0.
HT 1-0.
Wythenshawe started the second half as they finished the first, pressurising Town. Dominic Lille header producing a one handed save, came out to Ahern whose shot was cleared off the line.
On the hour mark, Ammies doubled their tally, when Ahern found himself on the edge of the box, looked up, and placed it to the keepers right. 2-0.
Dukinfield were physical, referee was patient, Wythenshawe played football.
In the 70th minute Denielson Osigwe came on as substitute and had an immediate impact, displaying his Brazilian-like skills, jiggling his way through 3 Town players their only option was to bring him down, the resultant free kick from 20 yards out was dispatched by Dolan which, like the crowd, the keeper could only watch. 3-0.
In the 80th minute Adam Walker did a 'Denielson', having said that, to the fans there's only one Adam Walker, he came on as substitute and had an immediate impact with his first touch knocking it past the keeper from a Denielson corner. 4-0.
Full time - 4-0 to the Ammies.
